AN MRC UPDATE ABOUT HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS:
August 25, 2020
Dear MRC Family,
As you know, Hurricane Laura has the potential to impact the areas where we serve. Within days, this storm system has the potential to make landfall bringing with it high winds and heavy rains. Our teams are actively monitoring the path of this storm and following recommendations for each area. We have our hurricane preparedness plans in place making us well positioned to respond to a multitude of situations or possible developments.
As of today, we predict that the chances of evacuation are low for our coastal communities in La Porte, League City and Corpus Christi. Communities in League City and Corpus Christi have been built to withstand hurricane conditions with a superior quality of construction that provides a safe shelter in place option for those residents. However, evacuation may be the best course of action if Hurricane Laura’s category becomes more severe. We are also predicting that our communities that are further inland in Huntsville, Lufkin, Texarkana, Bryan and College Station will be able to safely shelter in place.
Each MRC community that provides Assisted Living, Memory Support and Skilled Nursing have the following in place:
• Well-maintained generators to provide electricity in the event of a power outage
• Fully stocked food supply
• Fully stocked water supply
• Fully stocked with paper goods and medical supplies
• Fully charged satellite phone and mobile Wi-Fi support
• An evacuation site that can meet the needs of residents in licensed areas
• Ample transportation in the event that an evacuation is necessary
Our stand alone Independent Living Communities in La Porte and Bryan have the following in place:
• Fully stocked food pantries
• Fully stocked water supply
• Fully charged satellite phone and mobile Wi-Fi support
