William Elwood (W.E.) Greer was a well known attorney in Galveston and commonly known by his friends as “Bill.” He was described as a man with inherent leadership qualities and deep dedication to his church, Central Methodist Church in Galveston. Perhaps it was the mix of his faith values and his instincts to lead that caused him to be selected as Moody House’s first ever Board Chair, MRC’s first community. He was also involved with a variety of charities in addition to Moody House to include YMCA, Boy Scouts, Galveston Welfare Board, and the United Fund. Greer’s legacy will live on as Stevenson Oaks has named their dining room, “Greer’s Landing,” after the former leader.
